I hadn't ordered from this place since summer, so I thought I'd try it again. I live fairly close by so getting here was quick. Again, I ordered the sweet and sour chicken with steamed rice. I got there at 5:07 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2024. It was sort of busy, judging from the online orders they had. I got my order and skedaddled back to my apartment on West Stassney. I began to eat my food while I watched "The Children's Train" on Netflix (very good). The order came with the rice, something fried in a small bag, two sauce containers, two sauce packets, napkins and a fortune cookie. I looked at the (very generous) portions and wondered how I was going to eat all of it. I ate all of the chicken except for three pieces. I was extra full and couldn't eat another bite. All of that for $12.94 (plus tip). It's basically a take out place. It's not too big but the food is great. Two thumbs up!
Honestly great for take out. Huge portions, fast service, tasty. When you're craving old school Chinese fast food- this is the place to go.
I've gotten food here with my dad for about 15 years (since I was 6 years old). I've been to a lot of other places, but they don't come close to how great the food is here :) it's my favorite place to go when I come home to Austin from college
I view Americanized Chinese food as separate from Chinese food - not necessarily because the flavors and ingredients are different but more so because they fulfill different cravings. While I consider soup dumplings or dim sum as comfort food, Americanized Chinese food feels more like a guilty pleasure. While Panda Express fulfills that craving very well, I like having other local options, and First Wok is one of them. The portions are huge and I think good for the price. My favorite thing here is their Crab Puffs (aka Crab Rangoons) - it is an extremely satisfying version of it. I also like their General Tso's Chicken and Sesame Chicken. Their Orange Chicken is okay but it's hard to beat the Panda Express version that forever stays in my mind. I've also tried the Sweet and Sour Pork but it is not done well here so I would try another place if that is what you're craving.
Good old greasy Chinese food!!! Perfect for that old school craving. Great prices too!
Delicious and still huge portions. I miss dine in, but take out is fast. Dinner portion is huge with enough soup and entree for several meals, so still my jam after all these years. If you bus, the stop is right in front of the restaurant, so very convenient if you live nearby. Will def be back, and it was great to pay the restaurant directly for once, not DoorDash or Grubhub. Got all the food pictured for $16 -can't beat it.
I'm simultaneous disappointed and impressed. Disappointed because when I order "broccoli with tofu," I expect deep-fried tofu with crispy edges, smothered in a garlicky brown sauce. A bit trashy, oily, but comforting and nostalgic. This version is decidedly more healthy, with huge chunks of steamed firm tofu in a very light, almost clear, almost flavorless sauce. That said, I really can't be mad; it was a TON of surprisingly healthy, fresh, and hot food. No lie, it must have been at least two pounds of protein and veggies, plus a pint STUFFED full of white rice, crispy wonton chips, and a fortune cookie. All of one regular entree order, not even a lunch special. Knowing this, absolutely I'd order again. Just spring for some hot chili oil to spice things up.
My friends told me about this place to try for a quick take out place and it was great! I came in around 9 pm on a Friday and the kids were playing in the dining room which just showed me the dedication of these owners! The food flavor was amazing and is now definitely my #1 go to spot for chinese take out.
